Open the Cellar - 2014 Terra 9 Cabernet Sauvignon

In partnership with the Napa Valley Vintners, we are pleased to be opening our cellar and offering a limited amount of 2014 Terra 9 Cabernet Sauvignon.

We chose to highlight our 2014 Terra 9 for two reasons. First, the year 2014 marked the 150th anniversary of our great-grandfather acquiring the land we farm today.  In addition, this was the first vintage we began exploring the diversity of microclimates within our Estate, and assembling our favorite lots for Terra 9. This wine celebrates our family’s personal history with this land, and the deep respect for it that we have cultivated since 1864.

We recently opened a bottle, and found that is it aging beautifully. The 2014 vintage was a dream growing season, with steady summer temperatures and drought conditions that produced rich fruit with exceptional aromatics. At ten years old, aromas of petrichor, dark plum, caramelized raspberry and anise waft from the glass. A dense core of savory red fruits and brandied amarena cherry unfolds into layers of blueberry compote, sun-dried plum and confit orange zest. The signature minerality of our site thrums in the background, and mature, allspice-scented tannins support the sinuous texture. Mellow notes of clove, nutmeg, milk chocolate and dried cherry emerge on the long finish, concluding in a fresh whisper of mint tea.
