The 2016 vintage produced small yields of exceptionally rich, structured fruit. This lithe, dynamic wine opens with a wild bouquet of brambly berries, freshly turned earth and licorice root. Sweet red fruits explode on the palate, with juicy pomegranate and Bing cherry soaring into ripe plum, allspice, mocha and milk chocolate notes. Fine, well-integrated tannins give grace and structure to the sleek fruit core, which arcs into a lingering, mouthwatering finish of bright berry, black tea, and sweet oak spice.
The near-perfect 2016 growing season started early, saw ideal weather conditions throughout and wrapped up as the valley's first significant fall rainstorm arrived. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August and then a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, vineyards were able to progress to perfect ripeness. We selected rows from our Estate according to taste but varied that taste and ripeness over a harvest spanning two weeks.
We grow all of our grapes on a single estate in the west bench of Appellation St. Helena. Our soil is Bale gravelly loam that provides the perfect conditions for producing premium Cabernet Sauvignon.
